What is Gas-X?

Gas-X (simethicone) is a medicine for people who suffer from excessive gas or wind (flatulence). It works by acting in the intestines and stomach to change the surface tension of the gas bubbles. When the surface tension is changes, smaller bubbles join together into larger bubbles, making it easier to eliminate the gas from the body.

What symptoms does it treat?

Gas-X will not actually reduce the amount of gas or wind you suffer from, but it may help to relieve symptoms of abdominal pain, bloating and feelings of excessive fullness caused by trapped gas.

How is it taken?

It comes in tablet form. An extra strength form is available, and you can also buy cherry or peppermint version.

REVIEWS OF GAS-X

Review by Lisa

Every few weeks I get a very painful flare-up of IBS. It causes severe pain in my lower intestines, which comes on very suddenly. Taking Gas-X when the pain begins doesn't stop the flare-up, but within a half hour the pain begins to subside. Within 45 minutes it's gone. I don't know what I'd do without it.

This drug does absolutely nothing at all for me. I've downed six or seven of them in a single setting, trying to get through painful gas attacks at work, and it never even registers an effect. To my body this drug might as well be a sugar pill or something.

I took Gas-X to relieve a tremendous amount of bloating and pain in my stomach. It worked great. Within 15 minutes I could feel the pain and pressure subside. It was like a magical pill.

Whenever I get that full feeling I just take one gel pill and the pain subsides within 15-30 minutes. It's been a lifesaver for me.

Gas-X has really helped reduce the painful gas associated with my IBS when I use it in conjunction with other remedies.

I swear by this stuff! It doesn't stop my body from going through the usual IBS motions, but it seems to help with the pain sometimes!
